Film Opening Marking Criteria
Level 1 0–23 marks The work for the main task is possibly incomplete. There is minimal evidence in the work of the creative use of any relevant technical skills such as:
• Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task;
• using titles appropriately according to institutional conventions;
• using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;
• shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene;
• using editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions and other effects.
Level 2 24–35 marks There is evidence of a basic level of ability in the creative use of some of the following technical skills:

• using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;

Roses are Red
Excellent presentation of titles throughout with unique camera angles using mise-en-scene. However some scenes were slightly blurry or hard to read like the 'computer screen' scene that had the 'music' title.
Music and editing fit well to the romance theme of the opening scene but music did feel like it went on for a little too long.
Genre of the movie is unclear but definable if the pretenses are seen like the hearts and the photos on the mirror. But I had no feel for what would happen during the movie.
Blitz
Many props used that fit the setting of the scene and set the tone of the setting of the movie. Use of red brick is very effective along with the '1940's' themed posters and radio assisting.
The music fit well to the setting as it was not 'over-the-top' but also set the atmosphere well. The sounds included as well, especially early on in the form of creaks and distant explosions where amazingly executed as well and helped further set an atmosphere.
Mise-En-Scene was good with the slow reveal of the girl near the end helping supplement the horror genre.
Lastly the enigmas created were effective at holding the audience's attention and making them want more.
Luna
To start with the opening scene was brilliant and executed well with the match-on-action shots fitting well and the music playing alongside it reflecting the romance genre.
The Mise-En-Scene was also good and the editing was perfectly timed as the music fit transitions and actions that were happening on camera very well, attracting the audience.
However the narration at the start lets it down as the sound quality is below average of the rest of the opening and it feels as though it is too badly paced as an opening scene.
Furthermore the lack of originality throughout the opening is a let down as nothing new is truly introduced when compared to '500 days of Summer'. The rewind is also sub-par to the rest of the video with it feeling to forced to be in-place.
Mother and I
The titles introduced at the start were non-intuitive and simple to the point of boredom with only simple effects added to them like the blood effects.
Furthermore, this 'boredom' almost extends to the rest of the opening scene until the very with just the son walking around the house. However the shots used were very effective and well-executed with MIse-En-Scene being good.
The enigmas created as well were good enough to keep an audience captivated as the story is introduced well to the audience.
The use of different age groups assists with the plot of the story and shows good initiative by the director as it helps immerse the audience.
